An increase in applications to study at university has boosted the number of second round offers made by the University Admissions Centre.
Traditionally, second round offers are usually based on criteria other than a student's ATAR, such as their year 11 results and ratings from their school.
The increased offers have been driven by an increase in applications. There were 25,479 applications for second round offers this year. This is a 7.26 per cent increase on 2020. It reveals a greater demand for early offers in a disrupted year for students.
General Manager of Marketing and Engagement at UAC, Kim Paino, said it was welcome news for future tertiary students.
"I hope these offers are good news for all those HSC students currently in the midst of their final exams. It's been such a challenging year for them, but they're almost there and having an early offer could give them some extra momentum as they finish year 12 and look forward to their future after school."
For students who missed out an on offer this time, there are more second round offers to come, this month and in December and January.
ATAR-based offers will not be released until January 26.
Students will receive their ATAR on January 20 at 9am. They need to change their course preferences by midnight on January 21 in time for that round.
For those that haven't applied yet, there's still time. Applications for semester 1, 2022 are open until February 4, with more than 2300 courses offered by 26 participating institutions.
