Moorebank squadron parades through Sydney

The Moorebank squadron of the Australian Air League impressed at the recent New South Wales Group Ceremonial Parade.

Cadets marched through Sydney's CBD and finished the afternoon with NSW Governor Margaret Beazley in the Royal Botanic Gardens.

The Moorebank squadron also placed highly in a number of competitions on the day including:

  • Best Squadron: second .
  • Best Drum Major: Corporal Luke Passmore - second.
  • Best Flight on the March: second.
  • Best Wing On the March: Top three with Padstow Squadron.

Commanding Officer Raymond Bell said it was "excellent" seeing the cadets representing the community which included the squadron band and flag party among the top three on the march.

"The fact we were able place so highly in virtually all the competitions is a testament to the hard work and dedication the cadets put in throughout the year and as such the cadets should be congratulated," he said.

More than 40 members were in attendance at last month's event. Squadron second in command Lachlan Hyde said the event was the largest march the squadron had been involved with since COVID.

"Adding to the whole experience was being able to march through the City of Sydney and seeing the crowds of people gathered along the route cheering us on and applauding us, it really was incredible, quite special as well," he said.

Moorebank squadron meets every Friday during school terms, from 7pm to 9pm, at Nuwarra Public School on McKay Avenue at Moorebank.
