Liverpool Olympic breaks Unanderra's heart in FFA Cup

Hoxton Park Reserve was buzzing as Liverpool Olympic FC secured a one-nil win over Unanderra Hearts in Round Five of the FFA Cup on May 5.

More than 300 people turned out to watch Liverpool Olympic take on the Hearts in an entertaining match despite the soggy conditions.

Despite multiple opportunities to score by both sides, the first half of the match remained goalless.

A half time talk by coach Diego Machuca reinvigorated the home side which saw attacking midfielder Markos Galla slot the ball past the Unanderra Hearts goalkeeper in the 69th minute with a flick off the back of his boot.

The Southern Districts Soccer Football Association side will now progress to Round Six of the FFA Cup.

Liverpool Olympic premier league coach Diego Machuca said he was proud of the boys.

"I'm very happy to go in to round six," he said.

"We've got plenty of work to do and hope we can go further.

"Thank you to everyone who came down to watch us and thank you to Unanderra Hearts for a great game."

Liverpool Olympic president Kevin Filipakis was happy with the team's result.

"I'm looking forward to round six," he said.

"It's a very good thing for the club and for association football."

Unanderra Hearts manager Wayne Martin thanked Liverpool Olympic for their hospitality.

"Thanks to Liverpool Olympic for a great game," he said.

"We wish the club well going forward."

The club also live streamed the game on their Facebook page.

Round Six of the FFA Cup will be a battle of the Olympics with Liverpool Olympic taking on NPL side Sydney Olympic at Hoxton Park Reserve on Wednesday, May 19 at 7pm.
