Edmondson Park's first Return and Earn reverse vending machine (RVM) was opened on Monday at Ed. Square Town Centre.
Consumers receive a 10c refund for each eligible bottle, can or carton they return or can choose to donate their refund to one of the onscreen charity partners. The current local donation partner is the 'Asylum Seeker Centre'.
"Liverpool Council residents are enthusiastic recyclers, having returned more than 156 million bottles and cans through Return and Earn since it launched over three years ago," James Dorney, chief executive of TOMRA Cleanaway, network operator for Return and Earn, said
"While this RVM brings the total number of return points available in the Liverpool City Council area to 13, it is also the first for Edmondson Park which means locals now have even greater access to the scheme.
"By using this RVM, the Edmondson Park community will be helping their local environment while also being rewarded for their efforts."
The new RVM is one of over 620 return points available across NSW with more than 5.4 billion containers returned through the Return and Earn network for recycling since the scheme commenced three years ago.
