Tasmanian independent senator Jacqui Lambie will not support a vote in the Senate to abolish the family court in Australia.
In Canberra this week the House of Representatives voted to pass legislation to get rid of the family court.
Senator Lambie said, "I just asked lawyers how they felt about it, and I can't find anyone who thinks this change is going to make things better.
"If there's a strong argument why we need to make these sorts of radical changes, I'm yet to hear it.
"I don't think the Family Court is a perfect system, but I'm not about to burn it down as a way of fixing it up."

If the proposed legislation passes the Senate it would then be enacted into Australian law meaning the court would be merged with the Federal Circuit Court.
The legislation has been subject to disapproval amid fears removal would undermine specialisation.
