During these difficult times it is important the community remain connected. Now more than ever, Australia Post are an essential Government service.
The Morrison Government's cuts to mail services and attempts to slash jobs at Australia Post are misguided, dangerous and must be reversed.
Due to these changes, letter delivery frequency has been cut in half and intrastate delivery timeframes have increased from three business days to a week.
Constituents in Werriwa have contacted my office to complain of mail taking over a week to travel a few suburbs and significant delays in parcel deliveries. Many letters sent to and from my office by Australia Post over the past year have not met delivery standards.
In recent weeks, we have seen news of Australia Post employees being asked to volunteer their time and private vehicles to deliver parcels.
Meanwhile the Australia Post CEO was seeking up to $7 million in bonuses for herself and other senior executives. This is an extraordinary ask for a publicly owned company, especially with Australia in recession, over half a million workers unemployed and many families struggling to pay their bills.
Thankfully the board of Australia Post have come to their senses and dumped plans to pay these obscene executive bonuses. Now it's up to the Morrison Government to restore Australia Post's service standards.
I am keen to hear your views and experiences of Australia Post. Please get in touch and let me know what you think.
