Madeline Safar has a wish she would like to come true.
The Chipping Norton resident is a national finalist for Miss Teen Galaxy Australia 2020 and would love nothing more than to be crowned the winner at the finals on the Gold Coast on March 7.
But the 15-year-old knows some wishes are more important than others. She has raised more than $1000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation - the designated charity for the event.
She saw first-hand how many children are sick and in need of cheering up when she was part of the entertainment for the Teddy Bear's Picnic at Westmead Hospital.
"The Make-A-Wish Foundation is a foundation that has truly touched my heart," she said.
"The kids appreciate when they have individuals who come in to help them enjoy something that is special to them like a sing-along or a gift. I think its really important to make sure that these children are able to find happiness in a time in their life that is obviously challenging and difficult.Through donations these children are able to see their wishes come true.
"This pageant has made me more aware of how lucky I am and how I can help children that are sick and need help to stay positive in these difficult times."
The Mary Mackillop Catholic College student has sold chocolates and lollies, made coffee and filed paperwork to raise money for the cause. She has also organised a neighbourhood car wash on March 2 to reach her target of $1200.
Her charity work is one of the categories Madeline will be judged on during the four-day final.
She will also have to take part in an interview and take to the runway in an evening gown, swimwear and fashionwear.
Madeline, who was crowned Australia's Teen Queen in 2018, said the beauty pageant has helped her become more confident with public speaking and more aware of how her actions can affect others.
"It has taught me to be less fearful of voicing what I think is needed in our community to those in positions that can make a difference," she said.
"Miss Teen Galaxy Australia provides an environment that motivates and give delegates the tools to become the best possible version of themselves and to become role models for their peers, their family and their community."
