International rugby league is coming to Liverpool this Saturday with Peru taking on Brasil in a Test match at Hillier Oval.

Match organiser Jaime Perez, the founder of Peru rugby league, said the game between the emerging nations was a chance to build international rugby league within the Latino community. For Peru, who started playing in Sevens and Nines formats, it will be their second international after defeating Uruguay last September at Waminda Oval.

"Our aim is to start a rugby league competition in Peru and build Latin rugby league as a whole," he said.

"We have two teams that have been training in Peru since December and their first game will be in March. It's a big step because rugby league doesn't exist in Peru."

Peru will field a team of primarily Sydney-based players with a Peruvian background.

Latino Heat - a combined team of players from Latino origin - will play in the curtain raiser to the main game against Malta in the under-16s and under-19s.

The day will be a celebration of Peruvian and Brasilian culture with dancers and food trucks giving the event a festival atmosphere.
