Travis Curme said he was stunned and proud to be named the Youth Award winner at the recent Liverpool City Local Business Awards held at Holiday Inn Warwick Farm on Tuesday, August 6.

The acting manager of Mexican restaurant Guzman Y Gomez at Hoxton Park said he didn't think he would win once he saw all the other nominees in his category, but his fellow staff members "never doubted it for a second".

"I have a magnificent team behind me both at work and at home," Mr Curme said.

"I am normally known as a super energised person bouncing around everywhere to complete tasks.

"Without this team to catch me I think would fall a lot more frequently."

He said as acting restaurant manager he needed to be aware of everything that happened in the workplace and to ensure his team worked together to provide the best possible service to their customers.

"We all work with same values and have a common goal, which is to ensure our customers are served swiftly, but still treated like individuals, and that sets us apart from our competitors," Mr Curme said.

He said he would encourage other young people to consider taking part in the business awards. "Everyone is valued and special in their own way, and no matter how little you think it may be, to someone else it's immeasurable," he said.

"The awards are an awesome night and we all need some recognition and praise in our lives."
