Oran Park driver extends advantage in Toyota 86 series: Photos

Oran Park driver Tim Brook has continued his red-hot form in the Toyota 86 Racing Series.

Brook secured two wins on the streets of Townsville over the weekend to extend his advantage at the top of the series standing.

The defending Toyota 86 champion qualified on the front row in Queensland before standing on the podium in all three races in round two.

A second place finish behind rival and friend Dylan Thomas in the opening race was followed by victory in race two.

Brook then capped off the weekend in style with another race win on Sunday morning. It was Brook's fifth win in his last six starts on the Reid Park circuit.

Brook said he was "stoked" with his performances on the weekend and thanked his support crew for all of their hard work.

"We got off to a good start on Friday with practise and then we were luckily able to convert that into a good qualifying result," he said.

"Starting at the front in this series is huge, so that really set us up for the weekend.

"We had a great battle with Dylan [Thomas] in the opening race and then luckily we were able to sneak by him in race two and hold on from there."

Brook walked away with 290 of the 300 competition points on offer, making for a total of 570 points from the opening two rounds of 2019.

The result has left Brook with a 108-point advantage in the title race but the Oran Park racer said he would take nothing for granted.

"We've had a really strong start to the year, it's better than we could have ever hoped for," he said.

"But it's not over by a long way, we've still got plenty of racing to go and we know that anything can happen."

Brook and his McLaren Real Estate Macarthur backed crew will now prepare for the third round of the Toyota 86 Racing Series at Mount Panorama from October 10 to 13.

The event will again be held in support of the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship..
