UPDATED | Charges laid following Wetherill Park RES investigation into drug supply

Eight people have been charged following an ongoing investigation into the manufacture and distribution of methamphetamine and heroin in south-west Sydney.

In December 2018, officers from Wetherill Park Region Enforcement Squad (RES) established Strike Force Dewed to investigate the supply of prohibited drugs within the South West Metropolitan Region.

Following extensive inquiries, strike force investigators executed five search warrants at homes in Bass Hill, Fairfield East, Villawood, Guildford West and Canley Heights on Tuesday morning.

Upon entry at the home in Bass Hill, two of the occupants - a 36-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman - allegedly threatened police with knives.

The pair were arrested and taken to Bankstown Police Station. The man was charged with two counts of supplying a prohibited drugs on an ongoing basis, supplying drug, knowingly directing a criminal group, knowingly exposing a child to drugs, owner allowing use as drug premises, armed with intent to commit an indictable offence, assaulting police and dealing with the proceeds of crime

The woman was charged with participating in criminal group, organising a drug premises, armed with intent to commit an indictable offence and possessing prohibited weapon without permit.

They were both refused bail to appear at Bankstown Local Court today.

A second woman, aged 44, was charged with supplying prohibited drugs on an ongoing basis, two counts of supplying drugs, knowingly directing activities of criminal group, knowingly exposing a child to drugs and occupier allowing use as a drug premises. She was refused bail and will appear in Bankstown Local Court on August 27.

A 52-year-old man was charged with participating in a criminal group, supplying prohibited drugs on an ongoing basis and having drug on premises. He was refused bail to appear in Bankstown Local Court today.

A 36-year-old man was charged with having drug on premises. He was granted conditional bail to Bankstown Local Court on Wednesday, July 17.

A 36-year-old from Bass Hill, charged with supplying prohibited drugs on an ongoing basis, two counts of supplying drugs, knowingly directing activities of criminal group, knowingly exposing a child to drugs and occupier allowing use as drug premises. She was refused bail and will appear in Fairfield Local Court today.

A 36-year-old woman from Liverpool, was charged with participating in criminal group, two counts of supplying drugs, supplying drug on an ongoing basis and exposing a child to drugs. She was also refused bail refused to in Bankstown Local Court today.

A 44-year-old man from Villawood was charged with two counts of supplying drugs, possessing drugs, conducting a drug premises, possessing a prohibited pistol, possessing ammunition, not keeping firearm safe, possessing an unregistered firearm, two counts of possessing a prohibited weapon and dealing with proceeds of crime.

The 15-year-old girl was released pending further inquiries and a child at risk notification has been made.

During the searches, police seized a loaded 38 calibre firearm, two loaded pen guns, electronic control devices, more than 30 mobile phones, more than $100,000 cash, a ballistics vest, numerous knives and drugs including heroin and methylamphetamine.

These items will be forensically examined.
