Nominations for this year's awards have closed and Precedent Productions' Steve Loe said they'd got thousands of nominations.

"Each year the Liverpool community throws its support behind local businesses by nominating them for the awards," he said. "This year's response was outstanding, with thousands of nominations in over 30 categories."

The team has begun the huge task of counting the nominations to find the most popular businesses in each category before notifying those who chosen as finalists.

Anonymous, impartial judges will visit each finalist to assess their services from a customer's view. Criteria include product range, value for money, business and staff appearance, service quality and customer relations.

Finalists can also submit information about aspects of their business that an anonymous visitor may not see, such as customer testimonials and references.
