Four people are in hospital -- two at Liverpool and two at Westmead -- after a car crash at Girraween on Saturday night. One is critical, the others serious but stable.

Just after 10.30pm on Saturday, June 8, emergency services were called to the Great Western Highway after a car hit a power pole.

Cumberland police officers attended and found a severely damaged sedan overturned after the driver apparently lost control while driving west.

Four people were taken out of the car in a rescue operation. Two were taken to Liverpool hospital and two to Westmead hospital. One is in a critical condition, the others are serious but stable.

A crime scene was established as inquiries by officers from the Crash Investigation Unit continue, helped by Cumberland police.

Police have appealed for anyone with information or dashcam footage of the crash to come forward.

Investigators are also seeking information about a red car that was possibly travelling with the car that crashed.
