GROWING THE SOUTH-WEST | Bernera Road opens at Edmondson Park

Approximately 1500 residents turned out to mark the opening of Bernera Road at EdmondsonPark on May 25.

Bernera Road was formerly known as Croatia Avenue.

Locals strolled all over their new road, enjoying the autumn sunshine and a tempting array of free entertainment and food.

The free sausage sizzle, coffee and ice-cream proved hugely popular, with a steady stream of delights handed out to happy families throughout the four-hour opening event.

Musical acts Ula, Dogma, PhilFaaluaandAndroMartinez and DoubleShot kept the stage buzzing, while the youngsters were able to enjoy some facepainting, garden games and the jumping castle.

"The opening of Bernera Road is a great day for Edmondson Park and it was lovely to see the local community turn up in such numbers to celebrate with us," Liverpool mayor WendyWaller said.

"Edmondson Park is one of the country's fastest-growing suburbs.

"Liverpool council is committed to ensuring residents of Edmondson Park get the services they deserve.

"Bernera Road provides quick and easy access through Edmondson Park to the railway station -- this is really quite a crucial piece of infrastructure that will instantly deliver rewards for residents."

A 1.35-kilometre stretch of Bernera Road between Camden Valley Way and Edmondson Park railway station was reconstructed and widened using more than 30,000 tonnes of recycled road base and asphalt.

Nearly $16 million of the total $35 million cost was funded by the NSW Department of Planning, with Liverpool council providing the balance.
