Numbers are a funny thing in sports. They can highlight success, pinpoint failures and show trends in performance. For Kemps Creek United Soccer Club duo Vince Musico and Jonathon Clark one number sticks out: 100 (which is their combined age). And yet they still operate under the same football currency: scoring goals.
The recently turned 50-year-olds, who have been playing with the club for a decade, netted seven goals between them in their sides' recent 11-2 victory against Colo Colo in the Southern Districts over-35s competition. Remarkably, for Clark it was his third straight four goal-haul. Musico's hat-trick in the round four clash was the first of his career.
The duo have helped the Tigers to an undefeated start after five rounds to sit on top of the competition. And they have no plans to stop.
"I know I can't go on forever, but I love playing the game, and while ever I can keep playing, why shouldn't I," Musico said.
Said Clark: "This is such an enjoyable team to be with, I look forward to getting on the field and playing every game."
It's a family affair at Tiger Town with under-18 ladies coach Clark, having daughters Jade and Sienna in the junior female ranks.
Musico, who has been known to don the Tigers mascot outfit during recent FFA Cup matches, has sons Aiden and Tristan playing in the under-15 and under-18 age groups.
