DestinyLyons, or MissDGL, 13, of Ashcroft, is printing off participation certificates so everyone who competes at her hip-hop battles at the Fairfield Easter Fair gets one. "I know from experience competing you don't always get recognition for your hard work," she said. 'I want to make sure everyone goes home with something."

She'll host daily hip-hop battles at this year's four-day Easter Fair which starts on April 19 and features high-profile judges like beatboxer Genesis.

Destiny, who'll also perform at the fair, saved her pocket money to buy trophies for the winners. "When I found out I was performing I wanted to do something to get everyone involved. I love to rap and dance and you don't know you like it until you've tried it. Singing has helped me tremendously. I didn't really have a lot of confidence before."

Last week the Westfields Sports High School student competed in the pole vault at the Australian Track Field Championships. She also handed over her crown as Miss Diamond Australia in Brisbane where she sang at the grand final. She raised money for the Tourette Syndrome Association after developing Tourette's syndrome as a result of trauma from assault. She still experiences body tics under extreme stress. Being on stage helps. "There's no better feeling than being on that stage."
