UNITY GRAMMAR | Amal's visit focused on 'hope, humanity and identity'

School Captains

International speaker, Ted X presenter and spoken-word poet AmalKassir was recently a guest of Unity Grammar College at Austral recently where she addressed the students and the school community. In the spirit of goodwill, the college also hosted several other schools to hear Amal's message of identity, hope and humanity.

Amal had various presentations to Unity Grammar students, staff and parents.

Audiences were told to make and leave their own positive footprint in this world, a legacy which will benefit people of all backgrounds well into the future. She encouraged us to be proud of our country, to feel passionately that we belong here. It's where we live and where opportunities have been afforded to us.

She reminded us of forgiveness and to choose the best possible role models.

At her keynote address at Bankstown, Amal had Auslan sign-language interpreters present as caring for those with a disability is her passion and it was a highlight of the evening, reinforcing her commitment to inclusion and diversity.

Unity Grammar students and staff escorted Amal on a tour of Sydney Harbour, Centrepoint Tower and some shopping at the Queen Victoria Building and Pitt Street Mall. She visited Featherdale Wildlife Park at Doonside to pat a koala and get close to native fauna and was even attacked by a kangaroo!

It was an enjoyable experience to host Amal and we sincerely hope to see her again on a future visit.
