New A-League club to announce name and look next month

Jot down the date May 15 into your diaries.

The new south-west A-League team's name, colours and logo will be officially unveiled on that day at the Campbelltown Catholic Club (time to be confirmed).

The Macarthur South West United made the announcement via its Twitter page on Thursday.

Macarthur South West United wrapped up its community online surveys earlier this month, where residents were asked to give feedback on the new club.

Suggested names include the South West Magpies and Macarthur FC.

Unity's deputy chairman Gino Marra recently told the Champion that he was "delighted with the community's response".

"We received about 4000 surveys," he said.

"We have had some great suggestions and it's been a great response."

Football Federation Australia (FFA) gave the green light last December for Macarthur South West United to become an A-League team.

At the time, Mr Marra said the announcement was "great news for the region".

"I believe this team will put our region on the map," he said.

"People really care about football down here and I think it's just going to grow.

"We are 100 per cent committed to this region - Campbelltown is our home."

The new team, based in Campbelltown, will join the Hyundai A-League in the 2020/21 season.

Macarthur South West United is expected to announce its inaugural coach and first recruits by October 2019.
