A man strangled an alcoholic Brisbane mother with whom he had a tumultuous relationship then sent some of her money to his wife in the Philippines, his trial has heard.
Danielle Miller, 44, was found by police lying face up alongside a broken fan and a clump of her own hair in her Greenslopes home after she was killed on October 22, 2015.
Robert Graham Thomas is on trial for murder in the Brisbane Supreme Court after pleading not guilty to the charge on Monday.
He pleaded instead guilty to manslaughter, which prosecutor Dzenita Balic rejected.
She told the jury that days after he killed Ms Miller, Thomas told another man what had happened.
"He told him words to the effect of, he went to see a woman, that something sexual had happened, or was to eventuate, or had eventuated, and she had absolutely humiliated him," Ms Balic told the court.
"He then showed him, with his two hands, what he did to her, and said that he choked her, he just squeezed."
Ms Balic said the pair had had a tumultuous relationship, which may have been sexual.
Ms Miller's body was found naked from the waist down, with extensive bruising to her neck and upper chest, and fractures to her neck and torso.
The court heard the wounds to her torso were likely caused by someone trying to resuscitate her.
She was an alcoholic, and had a blood alcohol reading of 0.32, six times the legal limit for driving at the time that she was found.
Her personal items, including clothing she wore in the hours before her death, a jewellery box, medication and wine bottles, were found in a bin at a building site at the property next door.
The Crown alleges Thomas killed Ms Miller, threw out her items, withdrew at least $2000 cash from her bank account using cards he had stolen from her and then attempted to flee to the Philippines.
He told work colleagues a woman had given him a PIN number for her bank account.
The jury was told he sent $350 cash to his wife in the Philippines, paid in cash for his return flights, and told his employer he would need a month off work.
In the days after Ms Miller's death, Thomas responded to previously sent texts from her that she wouldn't speak to him again.
Thomas was tracked down by police at a takeaway food outlet and initially gave them a false name, the court heard.
His defence lawyer, Scott Lynch, did not make opening submissions.
