A rookie police dog has sunk his teeth into a fleeing burglar at a Melbourne school after the man threatened the new recruit and his handler with a knife.
Police were called to the high school on Kings Way about 11.45pm on Sunday, after reports of someone inside the building.
Police say Bruce the dog, tracked the man to the stairwell where the cornered man produced a knife and threatened Bruce and his handler, before fleeing.
But Bruce, who was on his first assignment, chased him down and bit him on the leg, leaving him with a non-life threatening injury.
The South Melbourne man, 25, is charged with several burglary related crimes and will appear in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Monday.
