In recent times, Bardia resident Zane Brown's softball career has grown at the same rate as his flowing locks. So much so the 13-year-old - who only started playing four years ago - has been selected in the under-14 Aussie Diamonds Boys squad for a tour of New Zealand in April.

The former soccer representative is well and truly a softballer now - and a good one at that.

The second baseman, who plays with the Sydney Warriors in the Southern Districts Softball Association (SDSA), is a part of a 33-player squad that will compete in a four-day tournament in Auckland.

His selection comes off the back of a strong showing for the under-15 NSW Metro side at the Australian Regional Championships in Canberra in January.

Representative teams are not foreign to the Westfields Sports High School student.

He represented Georges River at the under-13 State Championships in both 2016 and 2017 and also competed at the 2018 Blacktown International Junior Challenge against teams from Japan and New Zealand.

Zane, who was a member of the Panania Public School team that won the 2017 state knockout, has also been selected to represent the SDSA under-16 representative squad at the NSW State Championships in April.

"Zane has a worked so hard to get to this level and has a great career ahead of him," Warriors team manager Jacqui Fletcher said.
