All the hours in the backyard imitating cricketing heroes Shane Watson, Shane Warne and Mitchell Johnson has paid off for Edmondson Park resident Saim Siddiqui.

The nine-year-old captained the Liverpool Catholic Club under-11 green team to the grand final recently in the Camden District Cricket Association. And while they didn't win (losing by eight runs to Westerners), the right-hander top scored for the game with 24 to take his season tally to 190 runs. He also took 14 wickets for the season to lead both categories for his team.

The Dalmeny Public School pupil is already looking forward to next summer to pull on the whites for his fourth season.

Meanwhile, the champions have also been crowned in the Fairfield Liverpool Cricket Association.
