With today’s extreme heatwave conditions, EndeavourEnergy has cancelled maintenance on its electricity network in Green Valley and Hinchinbrook.

When the mercury hits 40C, maintenance work is cancelled with emergency crews prepared for deployment in the event of unforeseen problems.

Endeavour Energy chief operating officer RodHoward said planned interruptions are also cancelled for today at Blaxland, Northmead, Kenthurst, Menangle, Wentworthville, Maraylya, Thirlmere and Bligh Park.

When temperatures are forecast to be 39°C to 40°C, planned interruptions only proceed if power can be restored by noon. At 37°C, planned interruptions affecting vulnerable customers are cancelled.

ROD HOWARD, chief operating officer, Endeavour Energy

He said temperatures in those areas were predicted to be significantly above the 40C threshold and it was important for customers to have electricity in heatwave conditions.

“When temperatures are forecast to be 39°C to 40°C, planned interruptions only proceed if power can be restored by noon. At 37°C, planned interruptions affecting vulnerable customers, such as those with registered home medical equipment, retirement homes and childcare centres, are cancelled.

“We urge customers to consider their particular circumstances and take steps to ensure their comfort and to think through their plan if power is lost for any reason.

“The size of our network means there’s always some vital maintenance or emergency work to complete, regardless of weather. We thank customers for their patience and understanding under these circumstances.”

He urged all customers to think through their plan in case power was lost unexpectedly and to stay safe during heatwaves by staying well hydrated.

“Please keep an eye on elderly neighbours, keep mobiles charged in case power is interrupted and take extra precautions to keep your pets cool. Customers using registered medical equipment at home should review backup plans.”
