POLICE UPDATE | Driver charged after fatal Lucas Heights crash earlier this month which also put two into hospital at Liverpool and St George

A man has been charged after a fatal crash at LucasHeights earlier this month.

Shortly before 2.30pm on Saturday, January 5, emergency services were called to New Illawarra Road, near Heathcote Road, after reports three cars had collided.

The male driver of a red Subaru Liberty, a Heathcote man, 63, died at the scene.

The male driver of a silver Toyota Hilux, a Miranda man, 26, suffered abdominal and spinal injuries. He was airlifted to St George Hospital in a serious but stable condition. He’s since been discharged.

His passenger, a Cronulla man, 21, was treated at the scene by ambulance paramedics for abdominal injuries. He was taken to Liverpool hospital for treatment and has since been discharged.

Sutherland Shire police, with help from the crash-investigation unit, began an investigation into the crash.

Following inquiries, about 11am on Saturday, January 12, the Miranda man was arrested and taken to Kogarah police station where he was charged with dangerous driving causing death, disqualified driving, illegally using a car and breaching bail.

He was refused bail to be in Parramatta court yesterday, January 13.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
