GALLERY | Battle of Beersheba remembered last weekend

A special commemoration of the Battle of Beersheba was held at Light Horse Park at Liverpool last Sunday afternoon to mark the 101st anniversary of the battle.

The 12th Light Horse Regiment was formed in Holsworthy in 1915 and it was their efforts, along with their sister regiment, the 4th Light Horse Regiment, which eventually won the Battle of Beersheba on October 31, 1917.

The commemoration at Lighthorse Park was organised by EllenRussell and the MC was former mayor WalterRobinson.

It was attended by Councillor GeoffShelton representing Liverpool mayor WendyWaller, federal Hughes MP CraigKelly, Crs PeterHarle and KarressRhodes, Major JohGreen of the NSW Association of Jewish Ex-Servicemen and Women, CollinHarrington of Liverpool RSL sub-branch and KenYoung of Fairfield RSL sub-branch.

The Ode of Remembrance was delivered by Captain WayneEdwards, Commanding Officer 22/29 Army Cadet Unit Holsworthy.

Scripture was read by ChristopherWrainwright of Everyman’s Welfare League and the Welcome to Country was delivered by Uncle MichaelMcDonough, of the Gandagarra Land Council.
