Two young Melbourne constables will be posthumously honoured with bravery awards on the 30th anniversary they were killed in the Walsh Street murders.
Steven Tynan, 22 and Damian Eyre, 19, were shot dead in the line of duty in Walsh Street, South Yarra on October 12, 1988, after being ambushed near an abandoned car.
Four men were tried for the constables' murder but were acquitted in 1991. No one has ever been convicted of the killings.
The tragedy will be remembered at a public memorial event at Prahran Police Station on Friday at 10am.
The men will also be acknowledged with Valour Awards, to be presented to their families, following the service.
"We will continue to honour what their sacrifice meant for Victoria Police and the community," Chief Commissioner Graham Ashton said.
"We who are left have an obligation to ensure the memories of these young men are never erased."
