Former Fairfield Liverpool Lions captain Gurinder Sandhu helped his new state into the JLT Cup final with a man of the match performance in the semi-final.

The Tasmanian quick returned the figures of 2-14 off nine overs to restrict Queensland to 177. George Bailey (70 not out) led the run chase to set up a final with Victoria on Wednesday.

Sandhu’s former teammates will look for win No.1 on Saturday in their home opener against Parramatta after losing a tight contest to Western Suburbs at the weekend.

Chasing 281, the Lions battled hard on a rain affected pitch before being bowled out for 250 at Pratten Park.

The Lions' run chase was on target when Raveesh Srivastava (74) and new recruit Arjun Nair (44) guided the visitors to 1-115.

But in the end it was wickets at crucial times and the inability to convert starts that cost the Lions.

In the lower grades, second grade held on for a tense draw while third grade had to settle for a first innings win after being washed out.
