The mystery winner of the $200,000 Lucky Lotteries Mega Jackpot purchased from Bonnyrigg Plaza almost two weeks ago thought he’d won just over $1000.
The Chipping Norton man won the guaranteed first prize in Lucky Lotteries Mega Jackpot draw 1130, drawn on September 19.
But because the winning entry was not registered to a Players Club Card, NSW Lotteries officials had no way of contacting the winner.
Speaking to a NSW Lotteries official this morning, the winner explained he only bought his winning ticket at Bonnyrigg Plaza Newsagency after he begrudgingly accompanied his wife on a recent shopping trip.
“I took her to the shops and on the way I went past the newsagency and I went in and bought this ticket,” he said.
“Just goes to show you’ve got to be in it to win it.
“This puts a bit of icing on the cake. I’ll keep it in the bank for now and maybe use some of it for a trip overseas at some stage.”
The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, scanned his ticket at a store which revealed a prize of more than $1000.
“At NSW Lotteries, the lady scanned it and said ‘Do you know you’ve won $200,000?’. I said ‘oh sh**!’. I had no idea. It’s amazing,” he said.
“This ticket has been sitting in the car for a while. I don’t check every week, maybe once a month. I just can’t believe it to tell you the truth.”
Bonnyrigg Plaza Newsagency owner Gia Lam said : “We’re so happy for our customer and that they’ve finally claimed their prize.”
The Lucky Lotteries Mega Jackpot prize is now $22.36 million for draw 1140 while the Lucky Lotteries Super Jackpot is now $630,000 for draw 10251.
