Stockland will show the latest technology to help save on energy bills as part of a free family fun day at Willowdale Community Place at Denham Court to celebrate Sustainable House Day.
There will be guided tours of what Stockland calls “one of the most sustainable display homes ever built in Australia” between 10am and 4pm this Sunday while fun activities for families will include ten-pin bowling, croquet, soccer, a game of hide-and-seek and a free barbecue between 11.30am and 2pm.
Practical advice for sustainable living will include building a vegetable garden and worm farm, with Bunnings from 2.30pm to 3.30pm.
Stockland’s RichardRhydderch, NSW general manager of residential communities, said everyone was welcome. “We’re delighted to be celebrating Sustainable House Day for the third year at Willowdale and have an action-packed day planned with plenty of helpful advice to make significant cost savings on energy and water and minimise waste,” he said.
“Willowdale Community Place has been designed as a community hub and display house which sets a benchmark for sustainable living, showing energy-saving inclusions that maximise warmth in winter and minimise the impact of the sun’s heat in summer.
“The day will be invaluable for anyone building or renovating and will highlight a range of energy-saving features that can be included in new homes so residents can start saving on bills as soon as they move in.’’
Willowdale Community Place, at 693 Jamboree Avenue, is designed as an 8-star house under the national House Energy-Rating Scheme and also shows best-practice sustainable living.
The house has achieved Liveable Housing Australia’s silver accreditation, which means it’s been designed to cater to families of all ages and abilities. It is accessible to all – parents with prams or small children as well as people in wheelchairs or with mobility impairment.
Launched in 2013, Willowdale is already home to more than 1500 families and includes innovative townhomes, completed homes, retirement living, a community centre, multiple parks and green open spaces and sports facilities. There are plans for a primary school.
The community is 15 kilometres from Liverpool, close to major road links such as the M5 and M7, allows easy access to Parramatta and Sydney Airport, and is a short, five-minute drive to the new Leppington train station.
Willowdale Shopping Centre has a new-format Coles and speciality stores, including café, chemist, restaurant and medical centre.
