A blanket of fog across Melbourne that led to flights being cancelled and delayed has eased, with strong winds expected to dispel the remnants.
Visibility was as low as 200 metres in some areas of the city on Thursday morning, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.
Inbound and outbound domestic flights were delayed due to the conditions, with nine Qantas services and two Virgin services cancelled altogether, a Melbourne Airport spokeswoman said.
Two international flights were also diverted due to fog.
The weather bureau said visibility has improved to between 6km and 10km across most of metropolitan Melbourne and faster winds are expected to prevent a repeat of the fog on Friday.
"Once you start to get wind at the surface, it makes it very hard for fog to form," senior forecaster Chris Godfred told AAP.
The SES had advised drivers to drop their speed, keep a safe distance behind other cars, and turn on their headlights while the visibility was extremely low.
VicRoads had also issued ice warnings on the Western Freeway at Gordon, west of Melbourne.
