Hinchinbrook couple charged over alleged CTP Green Slip Insurance fraud

UPDATE

A Hinchinbrook couple were charged yesterday and now another man, 24, was arrested today at Liverpool Police Station.

He was charged with one count of conspiring to cheat and defraud and was granted conditional bail to appear at Liverpool Local Court on Wednesday July 18.

Police will allege the man was a third member involved in the fraudulent CTP insurance claims at a crash at Hinchinbrook on 16 April 2015.

ORIGINAL STORY

A Hinchinbrook couple were charged for allegedly defrauding the Compulsory Third Party (CTP) insurance scheme.

In August 2016, detectives from the State Crime Command’s Fraud and Cybercrime Squad established Strike Force Ravens to investigate syndicates targeting the CTP insurance scheme after recommendations from the CTP Task Force.

The CTP Task Force is a NSW Government initiative coordinated by the State Insurance Regulatory Authority (SIRA), involving representatives from various government agencies and legal, health, and insurance sectors.

As part of ongoing investigations, Strike Force Ravens detectives arrested a man, 72, and a woman, 71, at their Hinchinbrook home, about 8am on Wednesday June 13.

The pair were taken to Liverpool Police Station and charged with one count of conspiring to cheat and defraud.

They were both granted conditional bail and are due to appear at Liverpool Local Court on Wednesday July 18.

Police will allege the couple submitted fraudulent CTP insurance claims worth $280,000 relating to a crash at Hinchinbrook on April 16.

To date, Strike Force Ravens investigators have arrested 20 people and laid more than 120 charges in relation to a combined fraud of more than $11 million.

Investigations are ongoing and further arrests are expected.
