POLICE NEWS | 21 nabbed in police blitz on shoplifters

On June 6, Liverpool police did an anti-shoplifting operation at Casula Mall, Green Valley Plaza, Carnes Hill and Miller shopping centres and 21 people were identified for shoplifting, drug and warrant offences .  Police issued 12 infringement notices, seven court-attendance notices, one warrant charge and a juvenile warning. Liverpool police will run more of these operations. 

Break-and-enter and assault

About 6pm on June 6, a Lurnea man, 37, apparently forced entry into a unit on Clingan Avenue at Lurnea. He threatened the occupants and punched one man’s face and hit his shoulder with a metal pole. The victim had minor injuries but didn’t need medical aid. Police attended and established a crime scene. They also went to the offender's home where he was arrested and taken to Liverpool police station where he was charged with aggravated break-and-enter and committing a serious indictable offence. Bail refused. He was due in Liverpool court on June 7 when he was conditionally bailed to return to court on August 6. 

Woman dragged to the road

About 5.10am on June 7, a woman, 52, was waiting at a bus stop on the Hume Highway at Casula on her way to work. She was approached by a man described as 182cm tall, solid build, in a dark hoodie and dark pants.  He walked past her then reached back and tried to grab her handbag. She struggled and fell and the man dragged her towards the road. Traffic stopped on the Hume Highway resulting in the man releasing the bag and running to a grey Toyota Corolla, driven by a woman. The victim had a grazed knee and sore hands.

Cannabis raid on Attunga Avenue

About 7am on June 8, Liverpool detectives searched a premises on Attunga Avenue at Moorebook following up information regarding a hydroponic setup. They found 38 plants in four rooms. The premises was used as a home and hydroponic setup, with children 7 to 12. Police found 11.5kg of leaf matter packed in 450g lots. Chatswood police arrested a Moorebank man, 39, at Lane Cove.

Liverpool detectives went to Chatswood police station and charged him, a resident of the home, with unauthorised electricity use, cultivation (child exposed), supplying cannabis and running a drug premises (child exposed). Bail refused. He was due in Parramatta bail court on June 9 when he was conditionally bailed to be in Liverpool court on August 21. 

Three men attack a teenager

About 10.10pm on June 10. a man, 19, was walking at the intersection of Elizabeth Drive and Goulburn Street at Liverpool and approached by three men. One tackled him to the ground and he dropped his phone. One man picked it up and the three ran north on Goulburn Street. The victim was sore and bruised.

The three are described as: (1) Caucasian, 21 to 24, 175cm tall, white hoodie, black pants; (2) Caucasian, 21 to 24, black hoodie, black pants; and (3) Caucasian, 21 to 24.

Police chase a motorcyclist

About 8.30pm on June 11, Liverpool police saw a motorcycle at Lurnea without registration. They tried to stop the rider who sped away. A chase through Lurnea could not continue due to speed. Police found the bike at the corner of Hillview Parade and Brian Avenue and saw the offender running away and chased him. He tried to steal a car on Graham Avenue by trying to pull a woman driver from the car at the intersection of Graham and Appleton avenues. She wasn’t injured and the offender didn’t get her car but he eluded police. Police seized the cycle which was found to be stolen from a break-and-enter at Mount Pritchard on May 20. Police are seeking the public’s help to find the offender.
