The Nguyen family were devastated: They are urging people on the road to drive safely, be wary and to stop and help if they've hit someone's pet.

A Chipping Norton family were left distressed when they discovered their dog of 12 years was hit by a vehicle on April 20.

The Maltese terrier, Cindy, was found on the road in front of the family’s driveway. Owner Lilian Nguyen said it was a hit-and-run.

“I wasn’t home at the time but my father was. He chased our dog when he realised she ran outside but found her remains. No one had stopped to help her and no one bothered to let us know. It’s a neighbourhood area, we’re not located on the highway,” she said.

“When my brother called to tell me the devastating news I completely broke down. She’s been our family dog since I was 11 so she was a big part of my life. We all loved her.”

She said her family haven’t pursued authorities yet but they’re hoping to track down the guilty party using security video.

“The footage would be dark because it was at night and it would be awful to watch our dog being run over. But I think it would be worth it to discover who did this and to seek authorities’ advice.”
