Three illegal firearms seized during search of property

Police have seized three illegal firearms following the search of a property at south-west Sydney.

Detectives from the State Crime Command’s Drug and Firearms Squad established Strike Force Kelmscott as an ongoing investigation into illegal supply and possession of firearms and drugs across south-west Sydney.

As part of their inquiries, strike force investigators, assisted by the Public Order and Riot Squad and Liverpool City Police Area Command, executed a search warrant at a property in Austral, about 12.30pm yesterday on Tuesday March 7.

During the search, police located three shortened rifles in the back of a ute, which were seized for forensic and ballistic examination.

Officers also seized cannabis, car keys, and other items for further examination.

A short time later, investigators arrested the male resident at a shopping centre at Green Valley.

He was taken to Green Valley Police Station and served Firearms and Weapons Prohibition Orders.

The man was later released pending further inquiries. Investigations are continuing.
