Free check-ups: The Big Aussie Hearing Check is a national drive in support of Hearing Awareness Week that calls on Australians to have a yearly check-up. More than 600 hearing check-points will be open until Saturday, August 26 including several in Liverpool and Fairfield. This year’s theme celebrates seniors’ enjoyment of sports and activities locally available. Bookings are essential. Details:

Black tie event: Liverpool City Council will host a charity ball on on Saturday, August 26 at Liverpool Catholic Club featuring ABC Radio’s Wendy Harmer as MC. Fijian feast: Labasans Australia Fiji Inc will be selling traditional food to raise funds for the needy on Sunday, August 27. Food such as marinated chicken, lamb shanks and taro are wrapped in foil, placed on hot stones and covered to cook under the ground in the traditional Lovo method. Heart checks: HCF has partnered with The Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute to offer free heart health checks for members with extras at HCF Liverpool from Monday to Wednesday, August 28-30. It includes three quick health tests - blood pressure, cholesterol and blood glucose - to help members understand and track these factors that can impact their heart health. Free workshops: Lost In Books, 2/40 Harris Street, Fairfield, is offering a series of free Textiles workshops you can learn how to hand-stitch a fabric hexagon, which can be turned into a quilt or rug. Dementia workshop: Scalabrini Village, 199 Epson Road, Chipping Norton, will host a free community forum about dementia conducted by Alzheimer's Australia NSW on Wednesday, September 20, 10am-noon, as part of Dementia Awareness Month. This year’s theme is “You are not alone” and the forum will offer an opportunity to better understand normal ageing memory loss and dementia and assist families and carers. Open to all.
