Short term pain for long term gain is the message from the Roads and Maritime Services as work ramps up to improve the intersection of Bigge Street and the Hume Highway, at Warwick Farm.
The $14 million upgrade, part of the NSW Government’s $225 million Pinch Point program, includes widening the western side of Bigge Street to provide two right turn lanes and a left turn lane. A dedicated left turn lane and shoulder will also be provided on the southern side of the Hume Highway.
Extra “no stopping” zones will be added to the southern side of the highway as well as the western side of Bigge Street.
Work will be carried out during the week for around 10 shifts between 9pm and 5am until Friday, June 30.
Motorists are being advised during scheduled work:
- Bigge Street will be closed between the Hume Highway and Lachlan Street for utility relocation.
- Motorists travelling northbound from Liverpool will be detoured via Lachlan and Goulburn streets, westbound motorists travelling on Hume Highway will be detoured via Macquarie and Lachlan streets and eastbound motorists travelling on Hume Highway will be detoured via Forbes and Lachlan streets.
Traffic control will be in place for the safety of workers and motorists and will ensure residents are able to enter and leave their properties.
Motorists are advised to plan ahead, drive to the conditions and follow the directions of signs and traffic control.
