Foundation stone laid for new Serbian Orthodox Church in Liverpool

A new Serbian Orthodox Church will be built on Flowerdale Road, in dedication to St Luke the Apostle.

The laying of a foundation stone and ground blessing ceremony was held at the site on March 12.

The service presided over by the patriarch of the Serbian Orthodox Church, His Holiness Patriarch Irinej.

After the Service, a luncheon was held at the Serbian Sports Centre in Bonnyrigg.

Hundreds of people from the local Serbian community joined dignitaries, His Eminence Metropolitan Amfilohije, the Serbian bishop of Australia and New Zealand His Grace Bishop Irinej, the Russian bishop His Grace Bishop George of Canberra, Fowler MP Chris Hayes and Hughes MP Craig Kelly.

During the luncheon there was also Serbian cultural dance performances.

Mr Kelly said: “It was great to have been part of this very special occasion for our local Serbian community and I look forward to the construction and opening of the new St Luke the Apostle Serbian Orthodox Church in Liverpool”.
