THE fate of the HUB Community Health Centre at Miller is uncertain following NSW Health's decision to remove its health workers and privatise the centre.

The Hub, which was run by the South Western Sydney Local Health District for more than 15 years, offered support services to local residents suffering from physical and mental health problems and addiction.

South Western Sydney Local Health District general manager of community health Justin Duggan confirmed a external consultation phase was completed in March.

Mr Duggan said community feedback was considered before the district decided to seek expressions of interest from non-government organisations.

"The District is exploring ways in which the social and welfare services provided by the HUB can be more appropriately provided by external partners, including the non-government sector," Mr Duggan said said.

"Interested providers have the opportunity to demonstrate their capability to deliver a service that meets community needs."

Miller resident and HUB volunteer Eileen Neale says privatisation will take away what the community needs.

"They can't guarantee that the NGO will even keep the services we have now," she said. "I want the health minster and the premier to notice what is going on. We just want someone to notice."

Member June Wardrope said the government had turned its back on the area.

Services currently available at the HUB in Miller:

  • Health and welfare information and referrals
  • Access to facilities including meeting rooms, photocopier, telephone and fax
  • Community development programs
  • Counselling and casework
  • Speech pathology
  • Vocational and recreational programs
  • ATO tax help
  • Legal aid and antigambling and domestic violence support
  • Men’s and women’s support groups
