A MILLER after-school childcare centre was recognised at the Australian Child Care Week Awards at Darling Habour at the weekend.

Sloosh Kids Care was nominated for the Inclusion Award and the Community Champion Award.

Owner Ruth Brissett-Costa said though the centre did not win they were honoured to be a part of the awards.

"We came home with two finalist certificates and had an amazing night," Mrs Brissett-Costa said.

"To be a finalist in the two categories shows we're among the best of the best.

"Next year we plan on taking a different approach and entering in all eight categories."

Sloosh Kids Care is a non-profit centre that provides before- and after-school care for children between 4 and 16.

It offers homework, music, nutrition, health and fitness programs, parent education workshops, counselling and speech therapy sessions.
