Hockey club's program for kids off and running

MOOREBANK Liverpool District Hockey Club has recently started a six-week program for children aged five to nine.

The initiative run by Hockey Australia is for newcomers. The new program is at Ernie Smith Reserve, Moorebank.

Moorebank public relations officer Kim Brooks said children could go along each Friday from 5.30pm to 6.30pm.

"We will be running the Minkey hockey program for the duration of the hockey season, finishing in mid to late September," Brooks said.

"This is a great opportunity to get kids into sport. We understand getting kids into sport can be a costly exercise, so we are offering the first few sessions for free and if they wish to continue for the duration of the season, a small registration fee is applicable for insurance."

Brooks said the club will provide a stick for use at each session, for children who do not have one of their own.

But children must bring their own shinpads and mouthguards. The hockey season starts on Saturday, April 5.
