Police charge two men following Casula assault

Police have charged two men following an alleged assault in Casula on Friday.

About 11.30pm, Friday, March 14, a 27-year-old man and 23-year-old man became involved in an argument in Kenny Avenue.

Police allege the younger man threatened the older man with a firearm during the confrontation and struck him across the face with the weapon.

The younger man fled the location with a group of friends in a car.

The 23-year-old man sustained swelling and bruising to his face but did not require further medical treatment.

A short time later, Liverpool police attended a home on Gibson Avenue, Casula, where they located a vehicle believed to be involved in the incident.

Police from the South West Metropolitan Region Enforcement Squad stopped a second vehicle about 1am on Saturday, March 16, that was seen leaving Gibson Avenue, in nearby Graham Avenue.

During a subsequent search of the occupants, officers allegedly located a firearm, which was seized for further examination.

The 39-year-old male driver and 29-year-old male passenger were arrested.

Police located and arrested a third man, aged 23, at the Gibson Avenue home.

The 29-year-old man was charged with possessing an unauthorised pistol and possessing an unregistered firearm.

The 23-year-old man was charged with being armed with the intent to intimidate, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, possessing an unregistered firearm and possessing an unauthorised pistol.

The 39-year-old man was released without charge.
