Nine people injured after Lurnea police pursuit

Nine people have been injured following a head-on collision after a police pursuit in Lurnea in the early hours of this morning.

About 2.35am, January 27, highway patrol officers were driving along Glenwari Road, Sadleir when they attempted to stop a stolen Toyota Camry.

The 13-year-old driver allegedly failed to stop and a pursuit was initiated.

The pursuit was terminated minutes later after the Toyota Camry crossed onto the incorrect side of the road.

The vehicle continued along Hoxton Park towards Lurnea where it was involved in a head-on collision with a Toyota Corolla and a Honda Civic.

Eight people (four travelling in each vehicle) sustained minor injuries as a result of the collision and were taken to Liverpool Hospital.

The driver of the stolen vehicle then fled the scene on foot.

Local police, with the assistance of the dog unit, established a perimeter and conducted a search of the area arresting the 13-year-old male driver about 3.15am.

He was taken to Liverpool Hospital for treatment of a broken ankle and remains under police guard.

Investigations into the matter are continuing.
