The Company Profile:
Our client has been servicing the Australian malting industry since 1860 and have a passion for producing high-quality malt which is rooted in tradition, dedication and innovation. Sourcing high-calibre barley from all corners of Australia, their range of quality products are created to suit all beers and brewing styles.
The Role:
Love beer? Then this role is for you! You will be assisting in the production of specialty malts - the heart and soul of beer - to breweries.
You will help in the process of steeping (soaking) barley, then drying the malted barley. The barley begins to germinate (i.e., starts to grow) - which starts the conversion of starch to sugar, which happens within the barley grain. When it gets to the end of the malting floor it has been germinating for a few days and is about to sprout. Brewers (the main customers for malt) don't want shoots, they want the sugar that the yeast will turn into alcohol. So, the germinated grain is roasted to stop further growth and preserve the sugar.
