Thinking of updating your window coverings soon? Jenny Brown, National Marketing Manager, Luxaflex Window Fashions shared her insights into this year’s trends.
Ms Brown said that 2018 is going to be about taking the traditional and innovating it for the modern space through the use of colour and texture.
She said this reinvention trend is related to the urbanisation phenomenon that’s going to have a very strong presence in the work of residential and commercial interiors. From an interior perspective its come about due to the amount of attention and information being communicated on human waste globally and the domination of Nomad living.
However it’s not all new this year. Printed fabrics with a focus on botanics/florals both subtle and bold will continue, featuring comforting colours, pale warmer shades (e.g. drift wood pinks etc., not cool crisp tones). The other trend that will continue to evolve and stand the test of time is linen textures and designs.
It is time to move on from extremely heavy, dimensional weaves. Ms Brown said she is seeing more of our textured weaves being refined, with captivating yarn usage, subtle tactile surfaces that use colour play to create depth and dimension. This will be the next evolution of textured fabrics. We will also see less metallics used to off-set the strength of woven details and dimensional surfaces.
