POLICE NEWS | Jewellery shop staff threatened with knife at Westfield

About 8.20am last Friday, a woman described as Caucasian, mid-20s to early 30s, of average build, 5 feet 7 inches tall, with freckles and in large black sunglasses, black hoodie with white writing (“Los Angeles 60” on the front, “60” on the back) with two white stripes down the arms and long grey tracksuit pants entered a jewellery store in Westfield shopping centre. She approached staff and allegedly demanded the cash register be opened and be given the money. She produced a large knife. The attendant was unable to open the register and the woman saw shoppers collect at the front of the store. She ran away empty-handed. Security video showed her getting into a white Toyota Yaris without front registration plates. It’s believed she drove into the Liverpool CBD.

Drugs found, car may be stolen

About 10.50am last Thursday, police patrolling Liverpool CBD recognised a black BMW as possibly stolen. Police signalled to the driver, a Macquarie Fields man, 27, to stop. He was arrested and police searched the car and found property stolen from a break-and-enter the night before on Pearce Street at Liverpool.

He was taken to Liverpool police station and it was found he was disqualified to drive. He was searched and police found what appeared to be prohibited drugs, allegedly cocaine. He became aggressive and was put in a cell where he damaged a security camera and speaker.

He was charged with breaking, entering and stealing, taking and driving a car, malicious damage, disqualified driving and prohibited drugs. Bail refused. He was in Liverpool court next day and remanded to return last Monday. 

Punched in the face at the pub

About 10pm last Friday an Orchard Hills man, 29, was at a licensed premises at Moorebank. He was confronted by another patron who made allegations against him.

He denied the allegations and the man punched him once in the face. He was immediately ushered away by other patrons. The victim’s lip was cut and he was sore and dizzy.

Fire in a garage in unit block

About 9.15am on Monday police and Fire & Rescue were called to a unit block on George Street at Liverpool in relation to a fire which began in the unit-block garage. At this stage police and Fire & Rescue are yet to determine the cause of the fire. It was contained in the garage but several residents were temporarily evacuated until it was out. 

High-range drink-driving charge

At 9.15pm on November 7, police attended the intersection of First Avenue and Bareena Street at Canley Vale where a car had hit a barricade. The driver recorded a positive breath test, reading 0.170. The Bossley Park man, 65, was charged with high-range drink-driving. he’s due in Liverpool court on November 27. His licence was suspended.

Vehicle stop leads to charges

On November 8, police stopped a car on Peel Street at Canley Heights. A search found many Serepax tablets and a credit card-style knife. The Bonnyrigg man, 37, was charged with two court warrants, having a prescribed restricted substance and having a prohibited weapon without a permit. Bail refused. He’s due in Liverpool court on November 23.

Skye’s Law pursuit

At 3.30pm on November 8, police tried to stop a car on Anderson Avenue at Mount Pritchard. The silver Nissan Skyline failed to stop and accelerated. Police chased it along Hemphill Avenue but ended it for safety.

Soon after police went to Hinchinbrook and arrested a man, 29. Checks revealed he was disqualified from driving until September 2019. He was charged with disqualified driving, police pursuit. He’s due in court on November 30.

Drug possession at Cabramatta

At 12.40pm on November 8, police stopped a car on Cabramatta Road at Cabramatta. A search found suboxone film. The Strathfield man, 25, was issued a field court-attendance notice for having a prohibited drug. He’s due in Liverpool court on December 11.
