The emphatic message from Tuesday's creditor meeting for former Network Ten executive chairman, Lachlan Murdoch, was that his former employees at the broadcaster didn't want him back.
Ten's employees were crucial in the creditors vote, which approved the rescue bid from US TV giant CBS by an overwhelming margin at a creditors meeting for the failed broadcaster on Tuesday.
"CBS is pleased by the overwhelming support from the creditors and employees this morning," said a CBS spokesman after the vote. "We look forward to completing this transaction and working with the terrific team at Ten."
It was an emphatic rejection of the rival proposal from the network's former executive chairman, Mr Murdoch, and billionaire investor Bruce Gordon. Their private companies made a fresh bid on Friday, which offered more money than CBS.
"The creditors have had their vote and they've accepted a future for Ten with CBS," said Ten's lead administrator, KordaMentha's Mark Korda.
When asked to clarify the margin of the vote, Mr Korda said: "When I say overwhelming, they were the employees and substantially all the other creditors."
The administrators were appointed in June after James Packer, Mr Murdoch and Mr Gordon withdrew their guarantee of Ten's debt.
Creditors had the fresh offer from Mr Murdoch and Gordon to consider on Tuesday, as well asan updated bid from CBS.
The US network offered to pay unsecured creditors $40.58 million, compared with $32 million in its previous bid. Most of the new funds were earmarked for the Murdoch family's 21st Century Fox.
CBS and Fox both provided TV shows to the Australian broadcaster as part of content deals that sent the network broke.
The CBS money being paid to Fox - which matches what the company would have received from Mr Murdoch and Mr Gordon's rescue deal - is expected to head off any potential legal appeal by Fox against the CBS deal.
There is still the prospect of an appeal by Mr Gordon and Mr Murdoch against Monday's court decision, which ensured that CBS could vote its debt on a deal which delivers Ten to the US broadcaster.
"If other parties want to challenge that decision then they've got the legal right to do so," said Mr Korda.
Mr Gordon, who is currently at his home in Bermuda, was not available for comment.
A decision to appeal could come as early as Wednesday, but sources suggest there is no hurry given the regulatory hurdles that will delay settlement of the CBS deal until next month at the very least.
The deal needs court approval, as well as the approval of the Foreign Investment Review Board (FIRB).
Mr Korda said an application was lodged with FIRB on August 28, and he said it is usually a one-month process.
At the meeting, creditors first voted against adjourning the meeting to consider the latest offers from the rival bidders. CBS, as Ten's largest creditor, ensured its deal passed on the first vote measured by value of debt.
Ten's employees then clinched the deal by supporting CBS in the second vote, which gives each individual creditor a vote.
"We think this is the best return to creditors, it has the least execution risk, and we thought the creditors would vote for it, but ultimately it's their decision," Mr Korda said.
It will turn Ten into a well-resourced rival to Seven and Nine.
"I think the industry is genuinely excited about having a $27 billion big brother looking after Channel Ten," said Mr Korda.
