The under-14 Metro South team boasts a strong Liverpool connection for this week’s state titles.

Alexander Kilazoglou (Wattle Grove), Vasos Kartambis (Moorebank), Frank Byadu (Cartwright), Vineet Mesuria (Prestons), Luke Galatidis (Mount Pritchard) and Daniel Lual (Bonnyrigg) are all part of the squad which takes in the best players from Bankstown, Macarthur and Southern Districts football associations.

Vasos Kartambis (Moorebank) was also selected for the five-day tournament – an essential part of the recognised pathway for state team selection – but had to withdraw because of a broken thumb.

The team started its campaign with a 2-0 win against Metro North on Monday, with Lual and Galatidis netting goals. In the afternoon fixture, the side lost 4-0 to Metro East.

“I was very honoured to make the team; it is such a great opportunity to be noticed,” Galatidis said.

“It’s good there are a few local boys together and hopefully we can perform on the field.”

The under-14 boys tournament is being staged at Valentine Sports Park.
