The Southern Districts under-11 boys’ tee-ball team broke a 20-year drought to finish second at the recent NSW under-11s Tee-ball Championships at Blacktown International Sportspark.

Despite only having eight training sessions together due to the inclement weather, the team gelled nicely for the three-day tournament last month to win seven of their nine games.

Each one of them gave 110 per cent to training and games.

After opening their campaign with four straight wins, the team lost to Macarthur (13-6) and Penrith (18-17) to complete day two.

They rebounded on day three with sudden death wins against Cumberland (19-16), Penrith (17-7) and Newcastle (27-4).

In the grand final, the first time the under-11s had made the decider in more than 20 years, the team lost again to Macarthur 15-6.

Team manager Samantha Hamilton said the team showed sportsmanship “beyond their years”.

“The boys had heaps of fun experiencing game time on the same diamonds where the Olympics were played,” she said.
