Watch the arrest here:

This third arrest follows a police investigation into a string of robberies targeting people selling mobile phones online in Sydney’s west using gumtree.com.au.

Since last December, Flemington police received several reports of similar robberies.

Each involved users of the online marketplace meeting with prospective buyers to sell their mobile phones.

Police allege once the seller arrives at the agreed location to sell their phone two males steal it.

Offences have been reported here at Canley Heightsand also at Lidcombe, Strathfield, Regents Park, Merrylands, Brookvale and Marsfield.

Flemington detectives set up Strike Force Hayden to investigate the incidents and were helped with information provided by Gumtree.

Following inquiries, about 7.30pm yesterday, Tuesday, April 18, investigators arrested the Merrylands boy at Sydney airport after he arrived on an overseas flight.

He was taken to Mascot police station where an arrest warrant was executed.

He was charged with 12 offences: three counts of robbery in company, seven counts of personal theft, being armed with intent to commit an indictable offence and participating in a criminal group.

The charges relate to offences which allegedly occurred between December 11 and February 15 at Canley Heights, Strathfield South, Marsfield, Regents Park, Brookvale, and Merrylands.

Bail was refused and the boy is due to appear in a children’s court today, Wednesday, April 19.

He is the third person charged over the offences. Two other youths, 17 and 18, were charged by investigators last month.
