Liverpool Hospital’s 120 volunteer took a well-deserved break today to celebrate NSW Health Volunteers Appreciation Day.
A volunteer who especially needs to put her feet up is Carol Keogh.
Mrs Keogh has been donating her time to the hospital for the past 25 years.
“I see volunteering as my chance to give back – whether it’s stamping envelopes to help take the load off staff or simply making tea and coffee for our patients, I love knowing I can contribute to the good work of the hospital,” she said.
People ask me why I’d work for nothing, but to be honest, I’ve never felt that way.Carol Keogh
“People ask me why I’d work for nothing, but to be honest, I’ve never felt that way. “If you can put on a smile on someone’s face or just listen quietly while a patient shares a story with you, that’s pay enough for me.”
Liverpool Hospital general manager Robynne Cooke said the volunteers were a significant part of her staff at Liverpool Hospital.
“Their loyalty and dedication makes a real difference to the lives of patients, their families and staff and we are extremely appreciative of their time, effort and contribution to Liverpool Hospital,” she said.
